Sportys Day

Well this 3 day weekend was a great one. I got to get out of school Friday for my instructor was going down to Sportys to get one of there Cessna 172's worked on for it was left in a hail storm before they bought it. Stupid? But anyway we took off around 7:30-8am ish and landed o about and hour, hour and a half later. The trip down there was beautiful we had an IFR clearance cause there were a few clouds. Ryan decided to shoot the GPS approach to runway 22 at I69 but we ended up getting vectors till we had the visual then cancelled our IFR Flight Plan. Then when we got there we taxied to the work hanger and met a nice guy that drove us over to the Sporty's Building. I thought it was pretty cool since I have always wanted to go to Sportys and now I was actually there. We went inside and hung out for a while waiting for a courtesy car. I called up a friend that lives in Cincy and we met him at KLUK and ate lunch. When we went to KLUK it was beautiful. The perfect mix between turbine and prop planes. So anyways after we ate we went back to Sportys and Dave (Friend) asked if we wanted to pull out his friends Piper J3 Cub and I was nervous but went for it. He got in and real quick got current then had me get in the back and we went for an hour flight around Cincy. I really had a tough time flying it at first and then got used to the fact its a taildragger 1946. Then we went back to I69 and Ryan got in and they did 3 patterns to the grass strip to the right of 22. Then I got back in and we did a quick hop to KLUK to get gas. The ATC was cool it was the first time I really talked to ATC so it was an experience. Then we got down fueled up and taxied back and went back to Sportys. Perfect timeing for the Cessna 172 was done when we got the Cub back in its hanger. So we said our goodbyes and packed all up into the Cessna. We got the IFR Plan back to Findlay. It was bad weather on the way home we had rain and in the clouds for 90% of the time I thought. But we made it back safely we landed and put it in the hanger. I'm glad I got this chance and plane to go to KLUK alot in the summer for its a wonderful airport I thought. Well I get my medical on Wednesday and solo on May 11 hopefully with about 20 hours in my logbook. Pics of my trip coming soon.
